Umm Al-Muminin Hazrat Hafsa, may Allah be pleased with her |
Umm Al-Mu'minin Hazrat Hafsa's father is Majid Amir-ul-Momineen Hazrat Umar Ibn Al-Khattab (RA) and his mother Majida is Hazrat Zainab bint Mazoon (RA) who is a famous Companion. Hazrat Hafsa (RA) was first married to Hazrat Khanis bin Hudhafa Sahmi (RA) and she also migrated to Madinah with her husband but her husband died after being injured in the battle of Badr or the battle of Uhud. She became a widow and then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) married her in 5 AH.
She is a wonderful, courageous and generous woman. He had found the temperament of his noble father in truth-telling, present reply and understanding. She often fasted and recited the Qur'an and engaged in other forms of worship.
His temperament was somewhat harsh, so Hazrat Amir-ul-Momineen Umar bin Al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) was always thinking that any of his harsh words might offend the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him). So he used to say to them again and again: O Hafsah! Ask me for whatever you need, be careful never to ask anything from the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) nor to hurt the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) at all, otherwise remember that If the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) became angry with you, you would be caught in the wrath of Allaah.
As well as being a great worshiper, she also holds a prominent position in jurisprudence and hadith. He has narrated sixty hadiths from the Holy Prophet (sws) out of which five hadiths are mentioned in Bukhari Sharif and the rest are recorded in other books of hadith.
In the science of hadith, many companions and followers appear in the list of his disciples, among whom his brother Abdullah bin Umar is very famous. He died inside Madinah in Sha'ban 5 AH. At that time it was the time of the rule of Hazrat Amir Mu'awiyah and Marwan bin Hukam was the ruler of Madinah.
He offered his funeral prayers and also carried his body for some time and then he walked on his shoulders till the grave of Hazrat Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him). His two brothers Hazrat Abdullah bin Umar and Hazrat Asim bin Umar and his three nephews Hazrat Salem bin Abdullah, Hazrat Abdullah bin Abdullah and Hazrat Hamza bin Abdullah took him to the grave and this paradise of Baqi I was buried beside the other wives of the purified ones. He was sixty or sixty-three years old at the time of his death.
