 "The 1300 km long Karakoram Highway, also known as the National Highway, starts from Hassan Abdal in Punjab and goes to Khanjrab Pass in Gilgit-Baltistan, where it enters the Chinese border and becomes China National Highway 314.

*World's longest paved road*

  It is also one of the longest paved highways in the world, passing through the Karakoram Mountains and reaching an altitude of 15,466 feet near the Khanjarab Pass.

 A documentary about this landmark and in his honor has been made, entitled "Wearman and Mountain Mate", which aims to show the completion of the Karakoram Highway and the difficulties and struggles that lie ahead.This documentary is made in memory of the unparalleled sacrifices of the FWO.


 *Beginning and end of road*

 The project, which began in 1959, was completed in 1979 and opened to the public.  This road was constructed by Frontier Works Organization on behalf of Pakistan

 Was built.  The Karakoram Highway is used for expeditions to and from almost all the peaks in Gilgit-Baltistan, and the area includes some of the world's largest glaciers, such as Baltoro and Siachen.

 

*Difficulties and deaths in construction of Karakoram Highway*

 "Difficulties in the construction of Karakoram Highway and For the dangers, it is said that one person has lost his life at every kilometer.  567 soldiers and 246 civilians lost their lives and 980 people were seriously injured in various accidents, landslides and falls from heights."

  This road was built as a result of the great sacrifices of FWO and Chinese engineers.
